Final show of my work

This is an image of my final work third year on show for graduation. It shows my final sheets of  work for the EMP pinned up along with the documents on the table on the floor, also on display is my Special study unit which I chose to develop photography into architectural formats.

On the board shows my final design presentation sheets, to the left on the shelf shows my photography, models and my books I created. On the table on the floor shows my collage of Photographic images I took,  my photomontaging developments, further models and my Photocubism piece of Bournemouth Pier using my Photographs.

Hand Sketches

These few hand sketches I have done within my sketchbook / drawing board for initial ideas I came up with and features that I found interesting within the site location on the existing buildings.

Year Two Work

Year Two Work

Year Two work consisted of two main projects which were designed to incorporate urban design methods and detailed planning issues within an older town and existing sites.  They were both based within the area of Weymouth in Dorset.

The first design project was to design a suitable building for the urban area of activities located within the area.  The design needed to demonstrate  an understanding on urban building development, within the existing surrounding buildings and how the design will effect them and the local area.  My design proposal was for a new public gallery, to which local art work could be displayed in.

The second project again was to incorporate urban design but on a much larger scale.  This project was to design a theatre which would hold a variety of stage plays.  The design had to seat between 200 and 300 people within its auditorium.  This site selected was located in the centre of Weymouth town, opposite the train station along a fairly busy street.  The building design focused upon a lot of planning not just on the chosen site but also the wider location.  In this design I had to think about the impacts the new build would have, how people would know of its location, how it linked with the surrouding areas, did it need to be in the same context or something completely different? All the different access areas and all the interior arrangements.

Street elevation drawing of the immediate site with the gallery design in place. The gallery is to the left of the drawing with the glass windows at different levels on the front facade.

Larger plan of the gallery with further buildings in context based on an earlier design.

Detailed section through the gallery design showing the space being interacted with.

The model of the gallery modified to be in context with the surround buildings and representing real life use.

This interior of the gallery model, modified to look real inside with people and art work.

A sketch design of the building showing the initial design for the front facade with the glass windows being positioned.

The Weymouth Theatre Project

A variety of sections for the theatre design.

The street elevations for the theatre, showing the building in context.
The theatre design site plan with the proposed surrounding area features of landscaping and parking.

The urban context map showing the theatre location in the wider context and routes in and out to the site along with new sign postioning for directions.

Early work from year one - The Renga Project / Writer's Retreat

These two projects were developed over the first year of the course.

Year One Design Projects

The first project was the Renga project, a unit designed to understand different building materials and try to develop these into a design which would sheltor people whilst visiting the site.  We had to try use a selected pallet choice of materials which we thought would best suit the design purpose.

The second project was Writer's retreat project.  This unit  was specifically for the needs of a writer, who wanted a place to 'retreat' to write books / articals for himself and papers.  Based in the forset area of Holton Lee Dorset.  We had no designated site this was down to our own selection.  The retreat design needed to consist of a writing room, bathroom and bedroom facilities.
