REVISITING THE SITE!!!

Revisiting the site to take further images from the beach sore line
February 24th 2011

Today I revisited the site to gain further site analysis pictures but this time from a further distance and covering different area around the site.

SITE DEVELOPMENT WORKINGS FIRST PART

BUILDING IDEAS FOR THE SITE
Feburary 12th - 24th

These selected few images show the development of work for the site strategy of connecting spaces, with new buildings and walkways in place.

Above is a quick hand drawing of possible building styles and positions.

Above is my first initial artistic drawing which creates a scene with the developed area.

Above shows another initial artistic drawing from a different location.

This artistic drawing shows the elevation from the beach looking at the new possible building ideas on the site.

This drawing shows a developed plan of the site with the arrangement idea of the new buildings and the new walkways.

This drawing shows the develpment of reconnecting the green spaces together and new improved walkways on and around the site.

SITE MODEL CREATION

Creating the Site model at 1:1250
Weeks 2 - 5

In order to create a successful design we all needed to create a site model which showed the Contours of the site and the surrounding area.

STRATEGIES

Strategies for the EMP
Weeks 4 - 5

From developing the basic shapes the next stage was to develop three strategies which connected to the site and the hotel design.

Above shows my pin up of my three strategies.

Strategy one; Views
Strategy two; Connecting Spaces
Strategy three; Redesigning the Infrastructure

After presenting the three strategies, the next step now is to progress with the design development stages.

MERGING THE SHAPES

Merging the shapes.
January 23rd 2011.

The next step I took from looking at the basic shapes and overlapping them was to merge the different shapes together. My thoughts behind this was to identify a new mixed space area and creating a new possible link between the shapes which in architectural terms is creating new pathways and connections into the different parts of the building.

Above shows an early first initial idea sketch which begins to combine the different shapes and merging at different angles.

The arrows which are within the sketches show possible connection points and movement of travel throughout the build.

Above shows a more developed idea with the basic shapes merging together.  The idea here was to create both larger and smaller parts of the build and to divide the building on the site and create a walkway through the centre.

Above shows another develpment sketch with the same purpose of merging the different shapes together trying to create different spaces and connection points.

Here in this sketch though I have included a curving connection bridge which links the two separate parts together.

Above shows my thoughts being develped further this time. Here in this sketch I have begun to think about merging the different shapes in context with the site.  Here there are a series of different buildings, my idea behind this was to create a new public connection with the site and the Pier Approach.

Above shows a further development with the merging of the shapes in context to the site.  Here I have tried to focus the shapes on the contours of the site and how to follow them.

THINKING SHAPES

Thinking Shape forms Sketches
January 22nd start date.

I begain by deciding to look at the basics shapes at the start of my design process. This is because I wanted to gain an idea on how combining he basic shapes can create the different building spaces, interesting walkways, how to connect areas and to discover different entrance points.  This idea I will then be able to develop further and test a few ideas out on the site.

This sketch is showing my first movement with thinking bout the design. I began looking at the simple basic shapes.

This sketch continues to look at more basic shapes and to understand the different aspects each shape has.

This sketch shows how I began to think more Architecturally with the shapes and began to see what would happen if I began combining the same simple shape together.

This sketch is shows more development with combining the basic shape together. I played around with the size too to see if different spaces could be created.

I began to look at rectangles next and develop these in the same way, changing the sizes and angels of each one.

This sketch shows the idea developing further with more of the same basic shape being included with overlaps.

Next I moved onto triangles and how the angles of the triangles could create different walkway passageways and create different levels.

Next I began the same idea with circles. The circles gave an intersting shape format when overlaped with each other but in practicle terms perhaps not the best for a build.

My final stage was to look at parallelograms.  I used the same process by changing the angles of the shape as they overlaped one another, trying to gain an idea on walkways, entrances and building area space.

EXTENDED MAJOR PROJECT

The begining of the EMP year three.

Start date; 17th January 2011

The design breif is to complete a design of a hotel located on the IMAX building site, Bournemouth, Dorset.

We have to create three design strategies for the site and then develop them further until reaching a final design idea.
